THE ELEGANT EYE PHOTOGRAPHIQUE
“Cinemagraphic Portraiture in the Grand Style”

Cinemagraphic Portraiture is a carefully crafted depiction showcasing the photographic delicacy and lighting enchantment of the Films from the Golden Age of Hollywood and the style of Paris Vogue of the 1920’s and ‘30’s.

What's Playing?

Picture Shows

Throughout history, portraiture was, and is, a relationship between the Subject on one hand, and the Artist’s skill and interpretation on the other. A portrait artist not only finds who you are, this artist also helps you transcend to who you can become.

In today’s collective society, most people do not celebrate individuality, but rather conform to the trends of the day. They are, in a very real sense, losing the opportunity to discover a fresh interpretation of themselves through the eyes of an artist.

Mr. Menick would be honored to collaborate with you on the following Portraiture Packages
  • Formal Bridal /Engagement
  • Family/Anniversary
  • Children
  • Senior
  • Head Shots
  • Model Portfolio

Shooting Stars

Emulating Legends of Glamour

Like the great stars of the Golden Era of Hollywood, you stand before the camera, styled to perfection, illuminated by the very same lights that fell on the figures of Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Carole Lombard. Together we’ll find your “seductive” angles,” as well as the perfect light, the perfect makeup, and the perfect garment to inhabit your own “space of beauty”.

Certainly we all appreciate the play of light upon alabaster skin, high cheekbones, aquiline noses, half-closed eyes, and full eyebrows—all of which correspond to the conventional sense of what we call “beauty”.

However, all women are, and can be made to feel, “beautiful”.

We begin our process by viewing dozens of vintage Hollywood Glamour Shots. We select the era and the object to emulate, and then we bring it to life in your private studio session.

“No woman I photographed has ever recognized her “everyday” self. I seek to truly “capture” each woman in this particular style, which helps them, in turn, to “transcend” their image of themselves.”

An Exquisite Evening of Hollywood Glamour

The Aroma of an Era

Step back into a time of elegance and glamour as you celebrate your uniqueness and immortalize your love. On this inimitable evening each of you will be pampered and treated like a Hollywood Star. You will command the attention of your personal photographer, Mr. Menick, along with his award winning stylist and Master Chef.

At your consultation, either in person, on the phone or by using the PLAYBILL section of this site, you will simply provide us with your sizes, the movie, genre, and the Stars you wish to resemble. Once in the studio, our make-up artist will work magic. Your hair will be styled to period perfection. Your costume will be personally fitted and accessorized. Then you will be called “on to the set,” where you will strike a pose for posterity.

Your session in the Story Point Studio will transport you to the era of Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Franchot Tone and Clark Gable. In fact, the McAlister Fresnel Spotlights that Mr. Menick uses to light his clients are the very same instruments that illuminated the great actors of Hollywood’s bygone Golden Age.

After your photo session is “wrapped”, you will adjourn to the dining area of the Salon where your gourmet meal will be served by candlelight.

Take your time, immerse yourselves, and enjoy the aroma of the era.

High Tea Soiree

The Refinements of Gentility

The serving of tea has been a treasured ceremony since the 9th century in Japan. In the United Kingdom and Europe it not only served as a bridge between breakfast and supper, it allowed ladies of means to assert themselves freely without the unbidden interruption of their husbands.

Afternoon tea not only serves as a milieu for ladies to relate mutually, but it is an excellent opportunity to pass on to one’s children the refinements of gentility.

Reserve an afternoon for a High Tea Soiree, choose your era, and discreetly confide your sizes. When you arrive at Story Point Salon and Studio, an array of apparel will be here for you to don. Our stylists will dress you, apply makeup as befits the era, and coif your hair to archivally preserve a precious time and special people in your life. As you gather around the vanity, tea and sweets will abound. Mr. Menick will call you “on to the set” and a polished portrait will be crafted.

Afterwards, step into the dining area and relax, chat, sip tea and feast on a scrumptious display of cakes, sandwiches and sweets served by our Chef to your complete satisfaction.

High Tea Soiree is a perfect opportunity to celebrate mothers and daughters, your book club, mahjongg, card club or classmates. We limit our parties to four guests.

Experience the High Tea Soiree.

Commercial

“When you hire a photographer, you hire his eye. It’s not his camera, it’s his eye. It’s not his head it’s his heart.” Though studio shooting is my passion, from table top to fully built sets, going on location and shooting environmental portraiture, interiors, landscape is just as exciting. Concept, creation and retouching are all done in shop to match the client’s purpose.

Behind The Scenes

Jon's Bio

Jon Menick is living his third life. His first twenty-five years were spent as a schoolboy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and as a college student at the University of Georgia. His second twenty-five years were as an actor in New York and Hollywood. He appeared in film with such stars as Mel Gibson, Lily Tomlin, Bruce Willis, Bill Pullman, Cybill Shepherd, Cloris Leachman, Mel Brooks, Elijah Woods, and the Olsen Twins. He was a featured guest star on such well-known television shows as MURPHY BROWN, NIGHT COURT, TWILIGHT ZONE, MOONLIGHTING and J.A.G. as well as being a series regular on THE ADVENTURES OF A.R.K.

One day while gazing up at the colossal prints of famous Hollywood Glamour photographer, George Hurrell, that grace the walls of the Screen Actor’s Guild in West Hollywood, he vowed to master Mr. Hurrell’s abstruse technique of lights and shadow; glamour and texture; contours and patterns, and style and form. Jon spent the next five years assiduously unlocking the secrets of this distinctive photographic style. As his skill grew he expanded his study to include the great Vogue Photographers of the 1920’s and 1930’s.

Jon’s third life began when he and his wife Louisa left Hollywood for Asheville, North Carolina to begin to practice this largely forgotten art form in an atmosphere of mist shrouded mountains, surrounded by a city wide commitment to the development of the individual artist.

As long as his energy and enthusiasm remain, he will continue to be….. “The Elegant Eye.”

The Salon @ Story Point Studio

Being a red- blooded, frog catching, baseball card collecting, dust swallowing boy who grew up in the early1960’s, cleaning up my messy room was a chore that I avoided like the plague. Designing a salon which discriminating patrons would find to be tasteful and tranquil, was a tad out of character for such a man.

Fast forward to Story Point Studio. As fate would have it, I had a slew of beautiful women to plaster on the walls. (In photographs that is!) Colors were selected, furniture arranged, plants placed everywhere; and then some finishing touches were applied… like the canvas drapes on the ceiling. We have designed it all to promote a tranquil, restful feeling for our clients. And, by the way, if you happen to spot a stray frog, we’ll just let him hop out the door.

Story Point Studio

“Everything that can be shot can be shot in this space.” The Story Point Studio has a 120 degree cyclorama, and plenty of electricity to power movie lights. From the floor to the top of the 16 foot ceilings, it was completely designed and built by myself and my friends to fit the style I love to shoot. When I call you into my studio for your session, you’re invited into my playground.
